In the latest updates from the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on recent WrestleMania 40 events involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes, boxing star Tommy Fury hinted at a possible pro wrestling career with WWE, and reports indicate that former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from recent tapings, stirring speculation about his status within the company.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Potential Rock Match
During an interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns addressed the changing landscape of WrestleMania 40’s main event, which saw him face Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock. When asked if he was disappointed about not going one-on-one with The Rock, Reigns was clear that the opponent didn’t matter to him as long as he remained the main event and the top target.
Reigns explained, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening.”
Initially, after Rhodes won the men’s 2024 Royal Rumble, it seemed he would not challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40, with speculation that The Rock would take that spot. However, following a backlash from fans, Rhodes reversed course, and The Rock turned heel as “The Final Boss,” aligning with Reigns. Together, Reigns and The Rock defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. The following night, Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns in the main event.
Reigns also indicated that a showdown with The Rock remains a future possibility, contingent on fan demand. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he stated. The Rock made an unannounced WWE appearance last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his intentions, leaving room for speculation about their potential future matchup especially with the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series involving different iterations of The Bloodline.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Interest
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, may consider joining WWE in the future, based on recent social media hints. In a YouTube video posted Sunday, Fury was shown backstage at a WWE event during the company’s UK tour. He expressed appreciation for the WWE stars and environment, mentioning Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through the ropes one day. Who knows?” said Fury.
Tommy Fury is undefeated professionally in boxing and notably defeated YouTube personality Jake Paul in the ring. Given his links to the Paul family and his own growing fame, WWE could view Tommy Fury as a natural fit to potentially work alongside or feud with Logan Paul, who is an active WWE Superstar.
Oba Femi’s Absence From NXT Raises Questions
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been missing from recent NXT tapings, sparking rumors about his future. According to Fightful Select, there has been no word of Femi backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Femi enjoyed a dominant run after his April 2023 debut, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship by defeating Dragon Lee. His reign lasted a record 272 days until D’Angelo ended it last month. Following a subsequent rematch loss at Halloween Havoc, Femi has not been featured on NXT television.
The reasons for this absence are unclear. It could be part of a storyline reset, recovery from injury, or a precursor to a main roster call-up. When he returns, many expect Femi to again take a prominent role, potentially challenging for the NXT Championship and possibly dethroning current champion Trick Williams.
