Roman Reigns Opens Up on The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future; Oba Femi Absent from NXT
By Mike Chiari – November 27, 2024
Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE Universe, as top wrestling figures Roman Reigns, Tommy Fury, and Oba Femi are making headlines with intriguing developments.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Talks Potential Future Match with The Rock
In a revealing interview on the SI Media podcast, Roman Reigns discussed his experiences facing Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 40, as well as the much-talked-about possibility of a future showdown with his cousin, The Rock.
Reigns shared insight into the back-and-forth decisions by WWE about who he would face at the marquee event. Despite initially seeming poised to face The Rock, Rhodes’s unexpected turn and fan reactions reshuffled the plans. Reigns emphasized that it didn’t matter to him who was across the ring—The Rock or Rhodes—because he was focused on being the main event and defending his legacy.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me,” Reigns said.
The WrestleMania 40 event saw The Rock and Reigns team up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, with Rhodes ultimately winning the WWE Championship from Reigns in the main event of Night 2. When asked about the chances of a much-anticipated Rock vs. Reigns singles match happening in the future, Reigns expressed optimism, highlighting the importance of fan demand.
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said.
The Rock made a surprise, unannounced WWE return at last month’s Bad Blood event but has yet to clarify his intentions or return again. With the ongoing rivalry between the new and original Bloodline factions culminating in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, fans are speculating that The Rock could make another appearance, possibly building toward a future title showdown with Roman Reigns.
Boxer Tommy Fury Teases Potential WWE Career
In other news, British boxer Tommy Fury has hinted at a potential future in professional wrestling with WWE. Fury shared a video on YouTube from backstage at a recent WWE event held during the company’s UK tour, where he mingled with WWE Superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury expressed gratitude for the experience and hinted at the possibility of climbing through the wrestling ropes himself someday.
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” he said.
Tommy Fury, 25, is the younger brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, who previously dabbled in WWE with a match at Crown Jewel 2019 and appeared at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. Tommy’s undefeated 10-0 boxing record and his victories over notable opponents, including Jake Paul, position him as a promising crossover star. Given Tommy’s familial ties to Paul, a potential wrestling feud or tag team match involving the Fury and Paul brothers could draw significant mainstream attention.
NXT Star Oba Femi Reportedly Absent from Recent Taping
Meanwhile, reports indicate that former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been absent from NXT tapings over the past month. According to Fightful Select, there has been no indication of Femi backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. After an impressive rise since his televised debut in April 2023—winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title with a record-setting 272-day reign—Femi has recently suffered two losses to D’Angelo, including losing the title.
The reasons for his absence remain unclear, with speculation ranging from a strategic break for character development to possible injury or a potential main roster call-up. When he returns, Femi is expected to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly challenging current titleholder Trick Williams.
