In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast, WWE superstar Roman Reigns shared candid thoughts about his WrestleMania 40 experience and the prospects of a future match against The Rock. Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Reigns revealed that he was unfazed by the shifting opponent plans for WrestleMania’s main event, which swung between Cody Rhodes and The Rock.
When asked whether he was disappointed to face Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns said, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening.” He emphasized that his focus was on keeping his championship reign going, regardless of his challenger.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock ultimately teamed up with Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns in a main event match on Night 2. Despite the anticipation, the long-awaited one-on-one showdown between The Rock and Reigns did not materialize.
However, when asked about the possibility of a future match against The Rock, Reigns was optimistic, stating, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” He highlighted WWE’s responsive relationship with its fans and the company’s willingness to deliver on fan-driven demand.
The Rock made a surprise return at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but has yet to clarify his storyline intentions or appear frequently since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series involving members of The Bloodline, speculation is rife that The Rock might make another appearance, potentially reigniting his rivalry with his cousin Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Aspirations During UK Tour
Boxer Tommy Fury, known for his undefeated 10-0 professional boxing record and as the younger brother of Tyson Fury, has hinted at the possibility of pursuing a career in professional wrestling. During WWE’s recent UK tour, Fury shared a backstage video on YouTube, expressing his appreciation for the company and its wrestlers.
“So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love. Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night,” Fury said.
With his boxing background and connections to the Paul family—whose members Logan and Jake Paul have been active in WWE—Fury’s potential transition to wrestling could draw mainstream attention. WWE has previously featured his brother Tyson Fury, who famously defeated Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2019 and made notable in-person appearances at WWE events.
Oba Femi Absent from NXT Following Recent Losses
In NXT news, former North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen at NXT tapings or episodes for approximately a month, following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. According to reports from Fightful Select, Femi’s absence is unexplained, fueling speculation about possible injury, a main roster call-up, or a creative reset.
Femi made a strong impression since his NXT debut in April 2023, capturing the NXT Breakout Tournament and subsequently winning the North American Championship by cashing in on Dragon Lee. His record-breaking title reign lasted 272 days until his defeat by D’Angelo, which was followed by a loss in their rematch at Halloween Havoc.
Industry watchers suggest that Femi could be resting or repositioned for future storylines, possibly targeting the NXT Championship upon his return. He could be a formidable contender to dethrone the current champion Trick Williams.
