Date: November 27, 2024

Bleacher Report provides an update on notable developments within the WWE universe, including Roman Reigns’ comments on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, boxer Tommy Fury’s expressed interest in joining WWE, and rumors surrounding NXT’s Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and Potential Future Matchups

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns opened up about his experience leading into WrestleMania 40 and the evolving storylines involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns revealed that he was unfazed by the uncertainty over his WrestleMania 40 opponent. Whether it was The Rock or Cody Rhodes, Reigns emphasized that being in the main event was what mattered most. “I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out,” Reigns said, explaining his mindset going into the biggest event of the year. “It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle, so it was the same task in hand for me.”

The night’s schedule initially seemed set for Reigns to face The Rock, following Rhodes’ refusal to challenge Reigns after winning the men’s Royal Rumble. However, fan backlash led to a storyline reversal, with The Rock turning heel to form an alliance with Reigns as “The Final Boss.” On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Rhodes overcame Reigns on Night 2 to claim the WWE Championship.

Traina asked Reigns if a long-anticipated one-on-one match with The Rock might still be possible in the future. Reigns suggested it depends on the fans. “If our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something, we’re a company who… want to satisfy those people,” he explained. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”

The Rock made a surprise return to WWE programming at October’s Bad Blood event but has yet to clarify his intentions or appear since. With an ongoing storyline involving The Bloodline factions battling at Survivor Series, speculation remains that The Rock could reemerge to build toward a faceoff with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Explores Potential WWE Future

Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, appears intrigued by the idea of transitioning into professional wrestling. Fury shared a YouTube video capturing his experience backstage at a WWE event during the company’s UK tour.

Expressing admiration for wrestlers such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther, Fury commented, “Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”

Tommy Fury, who holds an undefeated 10-0 boxing record and is noted for being the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, has strong ties to the Paul family. Given Logan Paul’s active role in WWE as a former United States Champion, a potential “Fury brothers vs. Paul brothers” storyline could appeal to mainstream audiences. WWE is likely aware of these crossover possibilities as they consider talent recruitment.

His brother Tyson Fury had a one-off WWE match in 2019 at Crown Jewel and famously disrupted Austin Theory’s Money in the Bank cash-in at Clash at the Castle 2022, so the Fury family’s association with WWE is well established.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Sparks Rumors

Oba Femi, a former North American Champion known for a dominant run since his televised NXT debut in April 2023, has reportedly been absent from recent NXT tapings. Since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, Femi has not appeared on NXT television or backstage, according to Fightful Select.

Femi’s title reign lasted a record 272 days after winning the North American Championship by cashing in his Breakout Tournament prize against Dragon Lee. However, back-to-back losses to D’Angelo have sidelined him from current storylines.

The reasons for his absence remain unclear—whether it is a strategic break to rebuild his character, recovery from injury, or preparations for a potential main roster promotion. Should Femi return, many view him as a strong candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship and potentially dethrone Trick Williams.
