Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents, Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation

Wrestling fans have been buzzing lately with updates on major WWE storylines and talent movements. From Roman Reigns discussing his WrestleMania 40 main event experience and potential future clashes, to boxer-turned-celebrity Tommy Fury hinting at a pro wrestling career, and NXT standout Oba Femi’s recent disappearance from the brand, Bleacher Report offers a comprehensive look inside the WWE Universe.

Roman Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and WrestleMania 40 Main Event

Roman Reigns recently appeared on the SI Media podcast, interviewed by Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, where he opened up about the decision-making process behind his WrestleMania 40 main event opponent — originally slated by some to be The Rock, but ultimately Cody Rhodes.

When asked if he was disappointed not to face The Rock, Reigns stated that the opponent didn’t matter to him as long as he was in the main event spotlight:

“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”

Cody Rhodes had won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, initially claiming he wouldn’t challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40, suggesting The Rock would take that slot instead. However, after fans voiced displeasure over the change, Rhodes reversed his stance. The Rock then turned heel, branding himself as “The Final Boss” and formed an alliance with Reigns. This storyline culminated with The Rock and Reigns defeating Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the Night 1 main event. The very next night, Rhodes claimed the WWE Championship from Reigns.

Looking ahead, Traina asked if a dream match between The Rock and Reigns could still unfold. Reigns responded affirmatively, emphasizing the influence of fan demand:

“I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something… If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”

The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance at Bad Blood last month but hasn’t returned since. With Survivor Series looming, where the new and original Bloodline factions face off in a WarGames match, many speculate The Rock may reappear to intensify the family saga.

Tommy Fury Teases Potential WWE Involvement

Former professional boxer Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hinted at a possible future in WWE. Posting a backstage video from WWE’s recent UK tour on YouTube, Tommy expressed enthusiasm about working with WWE superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”

Tommy Fury boasts an undefeated 10-0 boxing record and notably handed Jake Paul his first defeat. With Logan Paul, Jake’s brother, currently an active WWE Superstar and former United States Champion, a Paul brothers versus Fury brothers storyline could attract mainstream attention and offer a fresh narrative for WWE.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Sparks Speculation

Oba Femi, a former NXT North American Champion, has been noticeably absent from NXT tapings following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Fightful Select reports that Femi has not been seen backstage for over a month and no official word has been given regarding his status.

Femi, who debuted on NXT television in April 2023, quickly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and claiming the North American title from Dragon Lee. His reign lasted a record-setting 272 days before falling to D’Angelo. Since suffering two quick losses to the same opponent, fans and insiders wonder if Femi is taking time off due to injury, being prepped for a main roster call-up, or simply being held off TV to reset his character.

Should he return, Femi is well-positioned to chase the NXT Championship, potentially becoming the next challenger to current titleholder Trick Williams.
