Reigns Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE; Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Rumors
Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE Universe, featuring insights from Roman Reigns, Tommy Fury’s potential WWE interest, and recent NXT developments surrounding Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Opens Up on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Possible Future Rock Match
In a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns reflected on his WrestleMania 40 storyline, sharing his thoughts about facing either The Rock or Cody Rhodes in the main event.
When asked if he was disappointed to face Rhodes rather than The Rock, Reigns emphasized that it didn’t matter to him as long as he was in the main event spotlight. “I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” he stated, highlighting the importance of defending his championship against top contenders regardless of who they were. Reigns described the challenge as a battle to stop history from unfolding, with opponents trying to dethrone him from the pinnacle of the WWE.
Initially, after Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. This led to speculation that The Rock would fill that slot. However, the plan shifted following fan backlash, with Rhodes reversing his stance and The Rock turning heel, rebranding himself as “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns.
The Rock and Reigns teamed up in the Night 1 main event at WrestleMania 40, defeating Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The following night, Rhodes reclaimed the WWE Championship by beating Reigns in the main event.
Reigns also touched on the possibility of a future match against The Rock, indicating that if the fans vocally demand it and The Rock is willing, WWE could make it happen. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said. The Rock made an unannounced WWE appearance last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his intentions.
With the ongoing rivalry within The Bloodline factions and the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series, many anticipate a possible return for The Rock to build toward a high-profile showdown with Reigns.
Boxer Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions
Tommy Fury, the professional boxer and younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted this week at a potential future in pro wrestling with WWE. In a recent YouTube video, Fury shared clips from backstage at a WWE event during the company’s UK tour. He expressed gratitude toward WWE superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther, and suggested he might want to try wrestling one day.
Fury said, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?” This open interest is notable given his family’s prior involvement with WWE; Tyson Fury wrestled in his one and only WWE match at Crown Jewel 2019 and famously knocked out Austin Theory during Clash at the Castle in 2022. Tommy Fury currently holds an undefeated 10-0 boxing record, and he is also the only boxer to have defeated Jake Paul. His relationship with the Paul family could make him an intriguing future WWE opponent for Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion. A “Fury brothers vs. Paul brothers” tag team storyline could attract mainstream attention, suggesting WWE might keep an eye on Tommy’s wrestling potential.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Raises Questions
Former North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared on NXT programming since October 27, when he lost his North American title to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been backstage at NXT tapings for over a month, sparking speculation about his status.
Femi entered NXT with momentum, debuting in April 2023 and quickly winning the NXT Breakout Tournament. He cashed in on a title opportunity to defeat Dragon Lee, holding the North American Championship for a record 272 days before his recent loss. After dropping both the title and a rematch, Femi has been off television.
Reasons for the absence remain unclear. It may be a creative decision to allow him to regroup after two consecutive losses, time to recover from injury, or preparation for a possible main roster call-up. Should he return, Femi is viewed as a strong candidate to contend for the NXT Championship, potentially challenging titleholder Trick Williams.
