Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Spot; NXT Rumors on Oba Femi
By Mike Chiari, Bleacher Report – November 27, 2024
Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE Universe, including Roman Reigns discussing his WrestleMania 40 opponents, boxer Tommy Fury hinting at a possible WWE career, and new developments regarding NXT star Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Potential Future Match with The Rock
Roman Reigns recently sat down for an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, where he opened up about his WrestleMania 40 experience facing Cody Rhodes and the possibility of someday facing his cousin, The Rock, in the ring.
Reigns revealed that he wasn’t concerned about who he faced at WrestleMania 40, whether The Rock or Rhodes. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know,” said Reigns. He emphasized that his mission was to defend his title against anyone challenging him at the pinnacle of WWE, regardless of who it was.
Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble but initially declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This twist led to speculation that The Rock might take the championship spot. After fan backlash, Rhodes changed course and accepted the challenge, while The Rock turned heel, adopting the moniker “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns. Together, The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, but Rhodes ultimately captured the WWE title from Reigns in the main event of Night 2. When asked about a future match against The Rock, Reigns suggested such a showdown could happen if fans expressed enough enthusiasm. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said. The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance at Bad Blood last month but has yet to clarify his intentions or return to programming.
With the latest WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring factions from The Bloodline, there is speculation that The Rock could return to WWE in a meaningful way, potentially setting up a historic encounter with Reigns.
Boxer Tommy Fury Shows Interest in Joining WWE
Tommy Fury, professional boxer and younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hinted at a potential crossover into pro wrestling with WWE.
Earlier this week, Fury posted a backstage video from a recent WWE UK tour on his YouTube channel, where he mingled with WWE Superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. Fury expressed appreciation for WWE’s hospitality and hinted at a future wrestling career. “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?” he said.
Known for his undefeated boxing record and being the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, Tommy Fury’s possible WWE involvement could generate significant interest. Given his rivalry and connections with the Paul family—Logan Paul is a WWE Superstar and former U.S. Champion—the prospect of a Paul brothers vs. Fury brothers storyline could appeal to fans of both boxing and wrestling.
Tyson Fury has a limited WWE history, with a notable match at Crown Jewel 2019 and a dramatic interference at Clash at the Castle 2022, suggesting the Fury family is no stranger to WWE’s world.
Oba Femi’s Absence Fuels NXT Speculation
Fans of WWE’s NXT brand have noticed the recent absence of former North American Champion Oba Femi, who has not appeared on NXT television for about a month following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. According to Fightful Select, no reports have indicated Femi’s presence backstage at recent tapings, and his silence is fueling rumors. After a strong start to his NXT career—including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American Championship for a record 272 days—Femi’s sudden disappearance is notable.
Possible explanations include a strategic hiatus to reset following two consecutive losses, healing time from a potential injury, or preparation for a call-up to WWE’s main roster. Should he return, he is considered a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly challenging current titleholder Trick Williams.
