Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions; NXT’s Oba Femi MIA
In the latest updates from the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns opened up about his experiences at WrestleMania 40, sparking conversations about potential future matchups with The Rock. Meanwhile, boxer Tommy Fury expressed interest in joining WWE, and NXT star Oba Femi has been notably absent from recent programming, fueling speculation about his status.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 and Facing The Rock or Cody Rhodes
During a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns shared his thoughts about the shifting plans for the main event of WrestleMania 40. The event initially built anticipation for a marquee match between Reigns and The Rock, but ultimately, Reigns faced Cody Rhodes instead.
Reigns emphasized that the opponent mattered less to him than being in the spotlight as the main event attraction. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said. “They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”
The storyline had seen Rhodes win the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match but initially decline a title shot against Reigns, leading WWE to tease a Rock vs. Reigns WrestleMania matchup. After fan backlash, Rhodes reversed course, and The Rock turned heel, aligning himself with Reigns as The Final Boss. At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, and then Rhodes defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship on Night 2’s main event.
When asked about the possibility of a future match against The Rock, Reigns responded positively but cautiously: “I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something… If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise return at last month’s Bad Blood event, but has not appeared since, leaving speculation that he might reemerge in upcoming shows such as Survivor Series, potentially setting the stage for a cousin vs. cousin showdown.
Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE Career
Outside the wrestling ring, professional boxer Tommy Fury has signaled potential aspirations in WWE. In a recent YouTube video, Fury documented his backstage experience during WWE’s United Kingdom tour, interacting with stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
“So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete… And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” Fury said, teasing a possible future in professional wrestling.
The 25-year-old Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has established himself as an undefeated boxer and the only fighter to beat YouTube sensation Jake Paul. With prior connections to the Paul family and brother Logan Paul’s ongoing work in WWE, Tommy Fury’s crossover could intrigue mainstream audiences and open up compelling storylines.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Sparks Speculation
Meanwhile, NXT star Oba Femi has reportedly not been seen at tapings or storylines since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. The former NXT North American Champion had a dominant run since debuting in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American title for a record 272 days before his recent setbacks.
Fightful Select reports that Femi’s sudden absence is unexplained, with possibilities ranging from a strategic break following two key losses, potential main roster promotion, injury, or creative direction changes within NXT.
When and if Femi returns, many expect him to pivot toward the NXT Championship, possibly challenging current titleholder Trick Williams.
